Biography

Dr. Thomas Karagiannis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He earned his basic medical degree (MD) in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed his training in Internal Medicine at the Second Medical Department at Ippokratio General Hospital, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

In 2010 he obtained a MSc degree in Medical Research Methodology with high grades from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and in 2016 he obtained a MSc degree in International Health Technology Assessment, Pricing and Reimbursement at the University of Sheffield, UK. In 2018 Dr. Karagiannis concluded his doctoral thesis in the field of Diabetes at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is currently a post-doctoral research fellow at the Clinical Research and Evidence-Based Medicine Unit at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki coordinating a multistage three-year project on “Patient-centred treatment to support a holistic approach towards type 2 diabetes”, which was launched in 2017 and is funded by the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD).

Dr. Karagiannis has co-authored several articles published in high impact factor journals and has teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate courses of Evidence-Based Medicine. His main research interests include knowledge synthesis (systematic reviews and meta-analyses), health technology assessments, and evidence-based clinical decision making in medicine and diabetes.
